The Importance Of Showing Your School’s “Normal”

In the era of COVID-19, it can often feel weird trying to advertise for your school as if everything is normal but, believe it or not, that’s actually one of the most significant things you can be doing at the moment. Providing a sense of normalcy can help assuage people’s fears and show your community that things are still running like clockwork. So how do you go about providing this semblance of normalcy? Here are a few ways to go about it.

Retain Your Previous Content

While you do want to keep posting new content that is more relevant to the current status quo, it is also important to keep your older content on the site as well. This not only displays to your audience that you haven’t forgotten about what it was like before the pandemic but also demonstrates to your students that you cherish the memories of being in school with them before everything got shut down. You understand that this situation is temporary and your content should be reflective of that mentality.

This will also give prospective students and teachers an opportunity to scroll down to the older videos so they can get a better understanding of what the school was like prior to the shutdown. With this knowledge, they can learn more about how usual the day to day operations of the school and what kinds of classes and extracurriculars they offer. Because it’s a temporary situation, they want to know about the way things usually transpire in your school.

Tell It Like It Was (And Will Be Again Someday)

In addition to retaining your pre-COVID content, you should also go ahead and add some content to give prospective students and their families an idea of what your school was like before remote learning was instituted. This usually entails shooting a video where kids are not wearing masks and there is no mention of social distancing or ensuring proper ventilation in the hallways and classrooms.

You can also post images of students in class before the pandemic hit to give your audience an idea of how things were before everyone started learning from home. This will give them an idea of how the school is typically run and enable them to make a more informed decision about whether or not they want to consider enrolling their kids in your school. Because this situation is temporary, it should be treated as such.

Write On The Money

With written content, it can be a bit harder to accurately portray an average day at your school before the pandemic but there are ways to do so. You can write about what kinds of sports and types of courses you offer as well as school clubs and other extracurricular activities. Of course, it won’t paint nearly as vivid a picture as a video but, if you don’t have access to any filming equipment, this is the next best thing.
